On our tours into Icy Strait you will see all sorts of Alaskan wildlife. The most common things we see are humpback whales, orcas, bald eagles, sea otters, and sea lions. There is even a chance to see brown bears roaming the beaches.

Always dress in layers when travelling to SE AK. Depending on the weather, you may want to bring warmer clothes, like a sweatshirt and possibly a rain jacket. The boat will be heated and there is an overhang around the outside to help keep you warm and dry. If you have binoculars you may also want to bring them. We will have a couple pairs on the boat for passenger use. We will provide a light snack and beverages. If you think you’ll want more than that please bring your own food.

When you arrive at Icy Strait, you will arrive at one of two docks. If you arrive at the Ocean Landing you will walk through the building, out any door. Veer to the left when exiting the building and then from there, follow the little white signs to the Excursion Hub. It will be about a 5-7 minute walk on a gravel path. If you arrive at the Wilderness Landing Dock, walk to the GREEN gondola and take a free 5 min ride into the port. After the gondola ride, follow the little white signs along the gravel path to the Excursion Hub. Once in the Excursion Hub, we will be there waiting with a sign that says “Hoonah Whale Tours” once the whole group is together, we’ll drive through town to the boat, about a 5 minute drive.

The weather in Southeast Alaskan can be hard to predict. There will be some days where it is sunny and between 70-80 degrees and others where it is colder and raining. Please dress according to the weather you see when you arrive but bring an extra layer in case it changes throughout the day.

Our new boat is custom built to be just like the Thor Too, just bigger and a little fancier! The boat will hold 14 passengers making your tour group smaller and more personal. It has comfortable seating and a walk around deck with an overhang so even if there is bad weather you will be somewhat protected and still able to see the whales, eagles, seals and sea lions, and hopefully bears. The boat is equipped with all of the proper safety gear. The boat will be a fast smooth ride and great for sightseeing.
